Community STEM Discovery & Innovation Labs

The Community STEM Discovery & Innovation Labs are interdisciplinary, hands-on learning environments designed to expand access to meaningful STEM experiences for children, youth, and families across our community. These Labs provide engaging, real-world learning opportunities that inform, educate, and inspire participants to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through creativity, inquiry, and problem-solving.

The Labs are designed to remove barriers to STEM participation by offering experiential, project-based learning that meets learners where they are—especially those who benefit from nontraditional, hands-on approaches.

Learning experiences emphasize:

  • Engineering design processes

  • Applied mathematics and scientific reasoning

  • Critical thinking and perseverance

  • Collaborative problem-solving

These Labs are supported through grants, partnerships, and community investment to ensure broad access and long-term sustainability.

The Digital Media & STEM Communication Lab empowers learners to document, explain, and share their learningthrough creative and technical storytelling.

Participants engage in:

  • Documenting experiments, projects, and design processes

This Lab reinforces that STEM learning includes communication, creativity, and reflection, not just experimentation.

The Sewing, Fashion & Textile Engineering Lab introduces STEM concepts through design, measurement, material science, and applied engineering.

  • Pattern design and iterative prototyping

  • Problem-solving through real-world design challenges

  • Connections to manufacturing, sustainability, and technology
