Understanding the DHEAI Learning Model

At Dr. Hayes Educates Academy of Innovation (DHEAI), we believe education should be flexible, personalized, and designed around how students learn best. Our instructional approach combines teacher-led learning, guided home learning, and meaningful family experiences to create an educational model that supports both academic growth and family life.

Our signature 2-2-1 Learning Model provides a balanced educational approach that combines two days of on-campus instruction, two days of guided home learning, and one day dedicated to family learning and enrichment. This structure allows students to receive high-quality instruction while giving families the flexibility to create meaningful learning experiences together.

Across every educational pathway—from Preschool Language-Based Learning & Play to our K–8 Hybrid Learning Community, Tennessee IEA Hybrid Program, and Tennessee Homeschool Umbrella—our commitment remains the same: to provide personalized instruction, authentic learning experiences, and meaningful partnerships that help every student grow academically, socially, and personally.

At DHEAI, we don't simply teach curriculum. We create learning experiences that build confident learners, strengthen families, and prepare students for lifelong success.

Our Modern One-Room Schoolhouse

At Dr. Hayes Educates Academy of Innovation, our K–8 Hybrid Learning Community is built around a modern one-room schoolhouse philosophy where students learn together in a small, mixed-age environment while receiving instruction at their individual level. Rather than separating children by grade alone, we use flexible grouping based on readiness, allowing every learner to be appropriately challenged and supported. This approach creates meaningful opportunities for collaboration, leadership, and mentorship as older students develop responsibility by serving as positive role models while younger students learn from their example. With a maximum enrollment of just 12 students, every child is truly known, valued, and encouraged to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and personally within a close-knit learning community that feels more like family than a traditional classroom.

The Hayes Method™

A Framework for Personalized, Purposeful Learning

At Dr. Hayes Educates Academy of Innovation, every learning experience is guided by the Hayes Method™—our signature instructional framework developed to help students grow academically, socially, emotionally, and personally. Rather than focusing solely on what students learn, the Hayes Method™ emphasizes how students think, communicate, collaborate, and apply their learning in meaningful ways.

Built upon personalized instruction, authentic learning experiences, executive functioning, and meaningful family partnerships, the Hayes Method™ prepares students to become confident learners, creative problem-solvers, compassionate leaders, and lifelong learners. It serves as the instructional foundation across every educational pathway at DHEAI, creating a consistent and engaging learning experience from early childhood through high school.

Teaching the Child, Not the Grade Level

At Dr. Hayes Educates Academy of Innovation, we recognize that children develop academically at different rates. Two students of the same age may be ready for very different levels of instruction, and we believe every child deserves to be challenged, supported, and taught where they are—not simply according to their grade level.

Rather than relying solely on age-based instruction, we use ongoing assessment, teacher observation, and student performance to guide instructional decisions. This allows us to provide targeted support, meaningful enrichment, and personalized learning experiences that help every student continue growing with confidence.

Our mixed-age learning communities encourage collaboration, leadership, and peer learning while creating opportunities for students to learn from one another. Older students naturally develop leadership skills, younger students gain confidence through observation and collaboration, and every learner benefits from a classroom culture built on respect, encouragement, and shared learning.

Students are grouped flexibly throughout the day based on instructional readiness, learning goals, and academic needs. As students demonstrate growth, instructional groups evolve to ensure they continue receiving the appropriate level of challenge and support.

At DHEAI, we don't ask, "What grade is this child in?" We ask, "What does this child need to grow?" That simple shift allows us to personalize learning while helping students build confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Inside a DHEAI Classroom

More Than a Classroom—A Learning Community

At Dr. Hayes Educates Academy of Innovation, learning is active, engaging, and intentionally designed to meet the needs of every student. Rather than spending the day listening to lectures or completing worksheets, students participate in a balanced instructional model that combines direct teaching, collaborative learning, independent practice, and authentic learning experiences.

Every school day is thoughtfully structured to provide consistency while allowing flexibility for personalized instruction, small-group learning, and meaningful exploration.

Our classrooms are built around routines that foster confidence, independence, creativity, and a genuine love of learning.

Guided Home Learning

Guided Home Learning is an essential part of the DHEAI educational experience. Rather than sending students home with hours of busywork or expecting parents to become teachers, we provide structured learning experiences that reinforce the instruction students receive on campus.

Our teachers introduce new concepts during teacher-led instruction and design Guided Home Learning to help students practice, apply, and strengthen those skills in meaningful ways. Families are not responsible for creating lesson plans or teaching new content. Instead, they provide encouragement and support while students complete purposeful learning activities.

Guided Home Learning is designed to promote independence, responsibility, and confidence while giving families the flexibility to complete learning at a pace that works best for them.

Every Guided Home Learning Plan is intentionally connected to classroom instruction and may include reading, writing, mathematics, reflection, project extensions, or authentic learning experiences depending on the student's educational pathway

Innovation Through Authentic Learning

At Dr. Hayes Educates Academy of Innovation, we believe learning becomes meaningful when students actively engage with ideas, solve real-world problems, and apply their knowledge in authentic ways. Rather than relying solely on textbooks and worksheets, we intentionally design learning experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Students investigate meaningful questions, complete hands-on projects, explore community connections, and develop solutions to authentic challenges. These experiences help learners build confidence, strengthen problem-solving skills, and see the purpose behind what they are learning.

Innovation isn't a single class—it's a mindset that is woven throughout our educational pathways. Whether students are participating in hands-on investigations, collaborative discussions, creative design challenges, service-learning opportunities, or real-world applications, they are learning to think deeply, communicate effectively, and become lifelong learners.

Partnering with Families

Better Together.

At Dr. Hayes Educates Academy of Innovation, we believe the strongest educational outcomes are achieved when schools and families work together. Parents are a child's first and most influential teachers, and we value the trust families place in us as partners in their child's educational journey.

Our goal is to build meaningful relationships through open communication, shared expectations, and ongoing collaboration. We believe families deserve to understand how their child is growing academically, socially, and personally while feeling informed, encouraged, and supported every step of the way.

Through regular communication, progress monitoring, parent conferences, Guided Home Learning, and personalized support, we work alongside families to create a learning experience that is responsive to each student's unique strengths, needs, and goals. Our small learning community allows us to truly know every child and build lasting relationships with every family.

Whether your child is enrolled in our K–8 Hybrid Learning Community, Tennessee IEA Hybrid Program, or Tennessee Category IV Homeschool Umbrella, you can expect a collaborative partnership built on trust, transparency, and a shared commitment to helping your child thrive.

Together, we create a learning community where students are known, challenged, encouraged, and inspired to grow with confidence, curiosity, character, and purpose.
