CURRICULUM & LEARNING RESOURCES
Dr. Hayes Educates Academy of Innovation utilizes a combination of research-based instructional resources, teacher-created materials, structured literacy practices, hands-on learning experiences, and curated academic content designed to support diverse learners within a small-group hybrid environment.
Rather than relying on one boxed curriculum program, instruction is personalized and adapted based on student needs, skill development, and learning goals.
Families may receive:
✔ Guided Learning Plans
✔ Teacher-Created Learning Resources
✔ Reading & Writing Activities
✔ Math Practice & Reinforcement
✔ Recommended Books & Learning Resources
✔ Hands-On Learning Extensions
✔ Structured At-Home Learning Guidance
The hybrid learning model is designed to provide families with guidance and support while allowing instruction to remain personalized, flexible, and responsive to student growth and learning needs.

SMALL-GROUP & SKILL-BASED LEARNING
The Academy utilizes small-group and skill-based instructional practices designed to support individualized learning and targeted academic growth.
Students may work within flexible instructional groups based on:
✔ Literacy Development
✔ Academic Readiness
✔ Skill Progression
✔ Instructional Needs
✔ Learning Support Needs
This approach allows instruction to remain personalized, responsive, and developmentally appropriate while supporting confidence and academic progress within a collaborative learning environment.

LITERACY & MULTISENSORY LEARNING
The Academy places a strong emphasis on foundational literacy development during the critical early elementary years.
Instruction includes:
✔ Explicit Phonics Instruction
✔ Structured Literacy Practices
✔ Reading Comprehension Development
✔ Writing & Vocabulary Development
✔ Multisensory Learning Approaches
✔ Dyslexia-Informed Instructional Practices\\
Students participate in movement, hands-on learning, visuals, discussion, games, manipulatives, and interactive instruction designed to support engagement and skill development.
HANDS-ON CONCEPTUAL MATH
Math instruction within the Academy focuses on helping students build deep understanding through hands-on, visual, and interactive learning experiences.
-
Students participate in:
✔ Manipulative-Based Learning
✔ Visual & Concrete Math Instruction
✔ Problem-Solving Activities
✔ Math Discussions & Guided Exploration
✔ Small-Group Math Support
✔ Real-World Math Connections -
Instruction follows a Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) approach designed to help students develop strong number sense, conceptual understanding, confidence, and problem-solving skills.
-
Math learning is intentionally designed to move beyond memorization and support meaningful understanding through hands-on exploration and guided instruction.

WHAT IS THE H-A-Y-E-S LEARNING MODEL?
Lessons within the Academy are designed using the H-A-Y-E-S learning model.
H – HOOK & ENGAGE
Students begin learning through engaging discussions, stories, questions, movement, and hands-on learning experiences designed to spark curiosity and engagement.
A – ACTIVE EXPLORATION
Students participate in guided practice, collaborative learning, projects, games, movement, and interactive activities designed to strengthen understanding and skill development.
Y – YOUR VOICE & THINKING
Students are encouraged to communicate ideas, explain thinking, ask questions, participate in discussion, and build confidence as learners.
E – EXPAND & APPLY
Students apply learning through projects, writing, STEM activities, real-world learning connections, and meaningful problem-solving opportunities.
S – SHOWCASE & REFLECT
Students demonstrate learning through presentations, reflection, discussion, projects, and academic growth experiences.
WHAT IS THE HAYES FRAMEWORK?
The HAYES Framework is a research-based instructional framework developed by Dr. Alisha Hayes through years of experience in education, curriculum development, literacy instruction, conceptual math instruction, executive functioning support, STEM learning, and whole-child educational practices.
The framework combines structured academics, hands-on learning, executive functioning support, creativity, critical thinking, and personalized instruction within a small-group learning environment designed to support the development of the whole child.
Rooted in research-based instructional practices and real-world educational experience, the HAYES Framework is designed to help students build strong academic foundations, confidence, independence, problem-solving skills, creativity, and meaningful real-world learning connections across subject areas.

Digital Media & STEM Communication Lab
The Digital Media & STEM Communication Lab empowers learners to document, explain, and share their learningthrough creative and technical storytelling.
Participants engage in:
-
Creating STEM explainers and demonstrations
-
Producing podcasts, interviews, and digital presentations
-
Documenting experiments, projects, and design processes
This Lab reinforces that STEM learning includes communication, creativity, and reflection, not just experimentation.

Sewing, Fashion & Textile Engineering Lab
The Sewing, Fashion & Textile Engineering Lab introduces STEM concepts through design, measurement, material science, and applied engineering.
Learning experiences focus on:
-
Measurement, ratios, geometry, and spatial reasoning
-
Pattern design and iterative prototyping
-
Problem-solving through real-world design challenges
-
Connections to manufacturing, sustainability, and technology
This Lab provides an inclusive, creative pathway into STEM that broadens participation and builds confidence.
